Product of the week - Magnetic Fishing Game

One of the most popular items in our eBay store, would by far have to be the Magnetic Fishing Game by The Fun Factory.
Both educational & fun, the Magnetic Fishing Game would have to be a great gift.
The set contains 1 wooden fish tank, which measures 36cm x 13cm, when assembled.
The 20 fish come in 4 colours and each are numbered.
By using one of the 4 magnetic rods, children take it in turns to go fishing.
See who can catch the most fish and add up your score!
This game helps the ages of 3 and above, not only to learn colours & numbers, but helps with hand/eye co-ordination. It also teaches children the art of participation & sharing and non-toxic paint has been used on all Fun Factory toys.
In our eBay store for $16.99.
Pick up is available from Hillbank (north of Adelaide SA) or we post Australia wide

Our new Urban Brats website

I am so excited! I have a grin like a Cheshire cat :))
We took over Urban Brats in July 2011, with great enthusiasm and many ideas.
One of those ideas was a new site.So after months of planning, our new website is now live, with a new colour scheme and banner, with links to facebook, twitter, google+ and of course, this blog page.
We have also removed our e-commerce part of the site and now our customers can shop directly in our eBay store, where we can now offer comparison to other online stores at great prices.
Why not check it out at www.urbanbrats.com.au and let us know what you think.
I would like to thank everyone involved, for their expertise and time, I love it!!

Urban Brats Update

It has now been 6 months since I bought the Urban Brats Website and brought it down from Qld to SA.
I always wanted to work from home, and with it being very much a 'hobby' at this stage, I am enjoying the sea change.
You see, I have always worked in Retail, on and off, taking a few years off to have my 2 beautiful children, since 1975.
I have worked in anywhere from a small discount shop to a large supermarket, from night filler to department manager.
Don't get me wrong, I love the retail world and all it provides, but I guess basically, I just got tired of working late nights, weekends, the stock takes and public holidays when I would rather be home.
So here I am! And loving It!
I have so many ideas with my little 'shop' and I am in the process of slowly making changes.
I started this blog as a more personal side, with it also having a facebook page and a twitter page too. I might even look into Google+ Pages.
I hope you will follow me and share the excitement ( and upsets ) as I explore the world of the web.

My Favourite Past time

I have never been one to sew, only hand knit and Cross Stitch, you know, things that I can make whilst I watch TV in the evenings.
But a few years ago, when my dear mother passed, I became the proud owner of her Compulock sewing machine, her knitting machine and a multitude of  plastic crates of wool, material, ribbons even a container of zips!
Mum was always on her machine making things, she made nearly all of her grandchildren quilts. She even made my wedding dress in 1980.
I was asked to attempt to make a quilt for my new niece, that mum had not had chance to make.
Never making one before, I was a bit overwhelmed, so my sister bought me a book on quilting.
This is how it turned out
I was quite pleased with it and my brother was thrilled! :)
I found it easier than I thought with most of the templates already cut out (in a container) and I assumed that mum had cut these out for the quilt.
A few months later, as we were sorting out mum's things, we found a camera with a film in it.
When we got the photos back, I was so shocked to find this photo.
We had never seen this quilt before and had no idea who she made it for.
Mum was always superstitious, maybe she helped me after all!

The Teardrop Bag

I was excited to be picked recently, for a free pdf pattern to make the Teardrop Bag by Emmaline bags and sewing patterns.
The pattern came in 2 sizes Reg or XL and I made the regular size.
I found the pattern very easy to follow, and I am by no means an experienced sewer!
Everything was set out well and plenty of pictures, just so I can check my progress.
In my bag, I placed 2 slip pockets either side, but there is also instructions for a zip pocket if you wish. I put in the magnetic closure for the first time and found further guidance on the Emmaline  website which explained it well.
Overall I was very VERY pleased with my new bag! :) The XL would make a great tote bag to carry towels and beach gear.
The pattern was very easy to follow, very informative and I am so pleased with my result!
I will certainly be recommending that my friends purchase one of Emmaline's patterns at a very reasonable price.
